Prevalence and associated factors for depression in postpartum women in Can Tho City, 2019

Postpartum depression affects not only the mother but also the care of the baby, especially in the first 6 months. This study aims to identify prevalence and associated factors for depression in postpartum women in Can Tho City, 2019. A cross-sectional study of 498 women with children under 6 months old of Can Tho in 2019 by random selection of multiple stages through the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale with the cut-off score at 13 points. Results showed that the percentage of postpartum depression by the EPDS scale is 25.7%. Factors related to postpartum depression in the study include: History of infertility treatment (OR = 1.5; p = 0.031), number of antenatal care visits during pregnancy (OR = 3.7; p = 0.001), postpartum pain (OR = 10.5; p = 0.003), someone confided when needed (OR = 5.3; p = 0.027), pressure changed appearance, maintained physique (OR = 11.5; p = 0.018), having postpartum events (OR = 5.9; p = 0.027), changing eating habits (OR = 4.9, p = 0.047), baby development (OR = 6.8; p = 0.005). Postpartum depression in women with children under 6 months old in Can Tho is currently at an alarming level. Effective interventions are needed to support this objects.
