Current status of use and needs of parents of deaf children for guidance documents for parents to provide speech-language therapy for deaf children at home at the National Children's Hospital in 2023

This study aimed to describe the current status of use of existing guidance documents and the needs of parents of deaf children at the National Children’s Hospital in 2023. To survey the current status of use and needs of parents for guidance documents for parents to provide speech-language rehabilitation for deaf children at home. Using cross-sectional survey method, direct interview The study implemented the method of collecting, analyzing, synthesizing survey data on 30 parents with hearing-impaired children whohad received hearing aids and/or speech therapy at the Audiology & Speech Therapy Unit, Department of Otolaryngology, National Children’s Hospital. The research results showed that 83.3% of parents had a correct perception of their children’s disabilities; 93.3% of parents understood their role correctly and 100% of parents participated in speechlanguage therapy at home for their children. However, 86.7% of parents had not received instructions on how to teach their children at home. Of the few 13.3% of parents who used the instructions, 92.3% of them felt unsatisfied with the documents they found. Most parents of hearing-impaired children had a correct perception of their role but they encountered many difficulties in the process of teaching speech language at home for their children. They have not had access to specific speechlanguage teaching materials for deaf children. They would like to have a handout to guide parents in rehabilitating their deaf children’s speech-language at home.
