Effectiveness of continuing medical education for health worker at the district hospital's traditional medicine department in Thanh Hoa Province by 2020

The intervention program “Continuing medical education (CME) on Traditional Medicine for District Health Workers” has been experimentally applied at the district hospital’s traditional medicine department in Thanh Hoa province. This research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the CME program after 12 months for health worker at the district hospital’s
traditional medicine department in Thanh Hoa province in 2020. Intervention design was applied, comparison of results before and after intervention. The research object is medical staff working in the district hospital’s traditional medicine department in Thanh Hoa province. The intervention content includes organizing the training to enhance knowledge and skills on traditional medicine examination and treatment for health workers through continuing medical education courses. Results: the good knowledge about traditional remedies, herbal medicinal empiric and medicinal products signifcantly
increase (p < 0.01) after intervention compared to before the intervention, Intervention Efciency Index (IEI) is 469%, 181% and 32%, respectively. Good practices in counseling, acupuncture, and massage signifcantly increased compared to before the intervention (p < 0.01) with IEI of 55%, 172% and 56%, respectively. Thus, after 1 year of intervention, the intervention program “Continuing medical education on Traditional Medicine for District Health Workers in Thanh Hoa province” has signifcantly improved the knowledge and practice of health workers working with traditional medicine in above research location.
