Abstract

A cross - sectional study was conducted among 930 married women aged 18 to35 in Thua Thien Hue province to investigate the prevalence and demand for vaccination before pregnancy. Sample collection encompassed three stages: deliberate selection of 3 districts according to ecological region (Hue city, Phong Dien, Phu Vang), random selection of 2 communes per district, and random selection of individuals to be surveyed. The results showed that 11.8% of all women were vaccinated, and the proportion of women vaccinated against HBV, influenza, varicella, and measles-mumps-rubella were 7.2%, 6.5%, 5.1% and 9.1%, respectively. The proportion of women seeking vaccination before pregnancy was 30.3% among all participants and 72.1% among women planning to get pregnant in the near future. The propotion of woman vaccinated was significantly associated with the figure of those living in Phong Dien District, being under 30 years old, completing secondary education, working as a white collar worker, being pregnant once or twice, and having had a pre-pregnancy checkup (p < 0.05). Women living in Phu Vang District, under 30 years old, completing secondary education, getting pregnant once or twice, attending a pre-pregnancy checkup, or having awareness of vaccines before pregnancy were significantly more likely to demand vaccination before pregnancy (p < 0.05). To promote immunization coverage against vaccine-preventable diseases prior to pregnancy, prenatal health education initiatives should be expanded among target populations.
