Time for outpatient examination at the medical examination department, Vinh Phuc province general hospital in 2022

Abstract

This study aims to describe outpatient examination time on 300 medical records at the Department of Examination - Vinh Phuc General Hospital in 2022. At the same time, a qualitative cross - sectional study with 25 indepth interviews was conducted with patients (n = 15) or their relatives and hospital staff (n = 10). The results showed that on average each patient spent 155.3 ± 83.4 minutes for the examination, with a waiting time of 91.7 ± 68.5 minutes and an examination time of 63.0 ± 44.8 minutes. Examination time increased with the number of service items and the number of patients using them. Limitations in space, quantity, and quality of medical examination equipment and the discontinuity of some service items also affected outpatient examination time. The results also showed that the examination process/procedure, information technology, and pre-appointment examination services also had an impact on examination time. The study provided evidence on the outpatient examination time of patients at Vinh Phuc Provincial General Hospital.
