Abstract

The study focuses on describing the use of contraceptive methods by 320 couples of reproductive age from 19 - 49 years old in Kien Quoc commune, Kien Thuy district, Hai Phong city from November 2021 to May 2022. The study results showed that the correlation between certain factors and the use of contraceptives was statistically significant. These factors include the husband’s age > 30 (OR = 2.35; 95%CI: 1.01 - 5.53), and 2 or more children (OR = 2.56; 95%CI: 1.08 - 6.16). The omission of contraception (OR = 1.97; 95%CI = 1.22 - 3.20) and the husband’s age being greater than 30 years (OR = 3.28; 95%CI: 1.08 - 13.25) are 2 factors related to unplanned pregnancy among couples. The wife’s education level being below high school (OR = 2.28; 95%CI: 0.98 - 5.36) affects the abortion status of the study subjects. It is necessary to improve communication and counselling on reproductive health/family planning for women with less than a high school education to reduce the rate of abortion in this group. Better communication is also necessary for those who are not currently using contraceptives so that they could choose the right contraceptive method to reduce the rate of unwanted pregnancy.
