Depression situation and related factors in people living with HIV/AIDS in Vietnam, 2012 - 2022

Abstract

In addition to improving physical health with continuous, lifelong ARV drug treatment, the mental health care and support of HIVinfected people is also one of the issues that need attention and intervention to improve the effectiveness of their treatment. This systematic review was to determine the prevalence of
depression and related factors in people living with HIV in Viet Nam, 2012 - 2022. The prevalence of depression was high (over 30%). Factors that increase reported rates of depression are stigma, low income, job instability, anxiety, and factors related to HIV/AIDS treatment such as being treated for other illnesses, side effects of ARV drugs, and symptoms of HIV/AIDS. Receiving support from relatives, family, and the community and good adherence to treatment are factors that protect people with HIV/AIDS from depression.
