Pre-diabetes prevalance rate and relationship factors in Binh Duong province

Abstract

The diabetes prevention and control project within The National Health Target program has been started at Binh Duong province since 2010. Before that, there hadn’t been any research about the pre - diabetes prevalence rate in the community that brings to the government evidence to make a right disease prevention policy. Therefore, the cross-sectional study with the sample size of 1920 people using the PPS method during September to December 2011 at 30 clusters is conducted. Findings: Prediabetes rate is 21.9% (CI95% 20.1 – 23.8), after correction is 15.8%; male is 15.1%, female is 16.8%, age 30 - 39 is 8.5%, age 40 - 49 is 6.9%, age 50 - 59 is 10.1%, age 60 - 69 is 17.4%, impaired glucose tolerance rate is 8,8%, rate of fasting blood sugar disturbances is 7%, the possibility of having prediabetes is increased in overweight people with PR = 1.3 (1.1 - 1.7), or have a higher waist circumference with PR = 1.7 (1.2 - 2.6), a higher waist/hip ratio with PR = 1.4 (1.01 – 2.0), and people having high blood pressure with PR = 1.5 (1.1 - 2.1).
