Current status of factors affecting the caregiver burden for the elderly with diabetes at Viet Tiep Hospital in 2018

Family support plays an important role in assisting the elderly in managing diabetes. The study aimed to examine the factors of burden among caregivers of older adult diabetes. It was a descriptive cross-sectional study. The data was selected via a questionnaire through a face-to-face interview. The results show that a total of 151 caregivers, 66.9% are adults, 33.3% are elderly, and female accounts for 74.2%. The caregivers who have low knowledge
about diabetes was 64.9%. There were 76.8% of caregivers, who did not receive the training and health education on care for the elderly with diabetes. The linear regression showed the factors including caregivers with chronic disease conditions, hours of care for the elderly, self - efficacy, and family attitudes in supporting diabetes care affected the caregiver burden.
