About 90% of infants born to mothers infected with HBV will develop chronic HBV infection and suffer complication of disease such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. In order to prevent MTCT, full and scheduled vaccination for children, mothers with high viral load should be received antiviral therapy in their pregnancy. Our study determined the proportion of pregnant women infected with HBV who required antiviral prophylaxis and those who missed treatment opportunities. A cross - sectionnal study, 665 pregnant women were recruited from Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Tu Du Hospital and Dong Thap General Hospital. The results show that the average of pregnant women is 29.2 years old (min:18, max:43). According to the PARA: 34. 9% were first-time pregnancy. 74.0% women have high school education or higher. 41.9% women have HBeAg positive. Proportion pregnant women needding and missing antiviral treatment is 52.7% and 22.3%, respectively.
It is necessary to increase HBV screening for pregnant women and improves capacity of healthcare workers on counseling prevention of HBV mother to child tranmission at obstetric facilities.
