Prevalence of obesity and some related factors of students at Tieu Can High school, Tieu Can district, Tra Vinh province in 2021

Abstract

Overweight - obesity is a disease that occurs at all ages, especially, adolescents are overweight - obesity can be obese when they are adulthood. In addition, the patients are also at risk of several comorbidities that affect health and require significant treatment costs. This study was carried out cross-sectionally on 318 high school students at the time of March 2021 at Tieu Can high school, Tieu Can district, Tra Vinh province to determine the rate and describe factors related to overweight - obesity of students. As a result, 35 students were overweight - obese (accounting for 10.95%; 95% CI = 0.059 - 0.194) and some related factors of overweight - obesity were determined with p < 0.05 that are family history (PR = 2.54; 95% CI = 1.20 - 5.36), mother is overweight - obese (PR = 3.37; 95% CI = 1.52 – 7.43), sibling is overweight – obese (PR = 6.36; 95% CI = 2.69 – 15.08).
