Whole virion inactivated Hand Foot and Mouth Disease vaccine against enterovirus 71 (EV71) developed from candidate strain in Vietnam was evaluation of the immunogenicity in mice. The purifed inactivated EV71 antigen was characterized the purity and antigenic properties. Balb/c mice between 6-8 weeks old were intramuscular immunized with two injections at 4-week intervals. The animals were assigned to 6 groups at different antigen dose 0.1µg; 0.5µg; 1µg with or without aluminum hydroxide, 2 control groups with PBS or aluminum hydroxide only. The ELISA results showed that the groups receiving
antigen formulated with aluminum hydroxide had higher IgG titer compared to groups receiving antigen alone; the immune response was elicited in all of immunized groups after the primary injection and signifcantly higher after the booster doses. The doses from 0.5µg and higher with aluminum adjuvant produced equivalent titers of IgG. The vaccine has been premelitary exhibited the immunogenicity.
