Abstract

Hydrocephalus and neonatal sepsis are challenges for the public health worldwide , the rate of children with hydrocephalus and neonatal sepsis in low- and middle-income countries is many times higher than in developed countries, especially in Africa and Southeast Asia, including Vietnam. To determine the several characteristics of hydrocephalus and neonatal sepsis in children, researching on 35 infants with hydrocephalus and 123 infants with neonatal sepsis were carried out from October 2019 to December 2020 at the Vienam national children’s hospital. The results show that both groups of diseases have similar characteristics: Boys have the disease higher than girls, the geographical distribution in rural and mountainous areas is higher than in cities, and the antibiotic treatment both used combination of 2 and 3 groups. In the hydrocephalus group, the rate of premature babies is 42.9% and the case fatality rate is 2.9%. In neonatal sepsis group, the rate of full-term babies (63.4%) is higher than that of premature babies (33.3%), with positive blood cultures accounting for 27.1%, mainly for Klebsiella pneumoniae and the case fatality rate is 6.5%.
