A controlled intervention study was conducted from April 2021 to July 2022 in Quang Nam province to evaluate the efficacy of albendazole and the re-infection rate in women of childbearing age. The research subjects’ demographic information were collected through a structured questionnaire. The Kato-Katz technique was used to determine hookworm infestation status. The rescue group was treated with a single albendazole dose (400mg). Then, stool samples were collected from the control and intervention groups after seven days of treatment to evaluate the drug’s effectiveness. After 12 months, all study subjects were tested for stool to determine the reinfection rate and the intervention’s effectiveness. In 1980 women participating in the study, the rate of hookworm infection before the intervention was 13.9%, and after the intervention was 7% with an efficiency index of 49.6%. The rate of egg clearing after seven days of single-dose albendazole treatment was 98.5%, and the hookworm re-infection rate after 12 months was 14.8%. Thus, the treatment of albendazole single-dose has brought high efficiency. However, the effectiveness of the intervention is still low, and the re-infection rate increases rapidly. Therefore, it is necessary to combine other interventions to be more effective.
