Knowledge and practice on prevention of birth defects of mother with children under 6 months old and some related factors in Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province in 2022

Abstract

A cross - sectional study was conducted on 215 mothers with children under 6 months old in Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province to describe the knowledge and practice of prevention of birth defects of mothers with children under 6 months old and some related factors. The results of the study showed that 64.7% of mothers had achieved knowledge of the prevention of congenital defects, practice of the prevention of congenital defects accounted for 50.7%. There was a statistically significant association (p < 0.05), the age group of mothers ≥ 30 years old, mothers who are Kinh ethnic groups; mothers with high school education or higher; family economics of mothers with moderate/good or higher education is a favorable relationship with knowledge and practice on prevention of birth defects.The health sector and local authorities in Quang Ninh district should strengthen communication to improve knowledge about birth defects prevention for women of childbearing age.
