The aim of the study is to determine the percentage of smokers with intention to quit smoking and to identify factors related to the intention to quit smoking in adult male smokers. A cross-sectional study was carried out on 400 adult male smokers in Thuy Van commune, Huong Thuy town, Thua Thien Hue province in 2019. Nicotine dependence levels are measured on the Fagerstrom scale. The questionnaire was designed to collect information on general characteristics of the subjects and level of desire to quit smoking (after 1 month, 6 months, and 12 months). The percentage of subjects with intention to quit
smoking is 18.5%. Factors associated with the intention to quit smoking include: receiving advice from health workers about smoking cessation (OR = 2.14 - 95% CI: 1.25 - 3.61), family conflict caused by smoking (OR = 2.2 - 95% CI: 1.19 - 4.01), and subjects’ awareness on the negative effects of smoking (OR = 5.09 - 95% CI: 1.18 - 21.84). The results show that the percentage of adult male smokers with an intention to quit smoking is low. It is necessary to strengthen the Information - Education -
