Mental health care need of elderly in Phu Vang district Thua Thien Hue province

Mental health care need of elderly is a global issue. The study aims to identify the need for mental health care of the elderly in Phu Vang district, Thua Thien Hue province in 2020 and analyse factors related them. This study used a cross-sectional descriptive with 445 people aged 60 and above, who were directly interviewed based on the structured questionnaire. A multivariate logistic regression
model was applied to explore factors related to mental health care needs. The percentage of need for mental health care of the elderly was 20.2%. There are 87.8% of the elderly said that they had the need for mental health care but they did not receive any mental health care services. There were significant associations between occupation, marital status, the number of generations living together, depression, stress, chronic diseases, limited physical activity, health information-seeking behaviors, social support, and need for mental health care of elder people (p < 0.05). Elderly people have high mental health care needs. Therefore, meeting the needs of the mental health care of the elderly should be developed and expanded.
