First aid and treatment at Nghe An Friendship General Hospital for patients with abdominal injuries due to road traffic accidents in 2020

Abstract

A cross-sectional study was conducted on 333 patients with abdominal injuries caused by road traffic accidents, admitted to Nghe An Friendship General Hospital from August 2019 to July 2020, with the purpose of describing first aids and treatment for these patients. The results showed that the majority of patients were initially assessed by sonogram, and computed tomography at the time of admission. Both methods showed the highest injuries detection on the liver; and lowest on the bladder and pancreas. Although the two methods showed a similar percentage of detection, however, computed tomography method has higher level of sensitivity and accuracy than sonography. The first aids works showed that the patients who received first aid had higher treatment outcomes than the group without first aid. There was a relationship between patients who had damaged solid organs and treatment outcomes, which implied that emergency work needs to determine the patient’s condition in order to have a timely and effective treatment plan. The majority of patients were treated by Internal medicine services, operations at the time of their admissions were 20.4%. The percentages of patients who were stable and got discharged were 92.5%, with the average length of inpatient stays being 6.3 ± 5.0 days.
