Nutritional status of children at Trung Vuong preschool in Thai Nguyen city and some related factors in 2020

Abstract

The study aims to describe the current nutrition status of children at Trung Vuong preschool, Thai Nguyen city in 2020 and analyze some related factors. This cross-sectional study included 399 children at the preschool. The  method of assessing nutritional status was based on WHO growth standards in 2007. The relevant factors were collected by survey questionnaires of child caretaker. The results showed that there was a double burden of nutritional status in Trung Vuong preschool: The overall rate of malnutrition was quite high 17.0%, of which underweight accounts for 5.0%, stunting was 7.8% and wasted body was 4.3%. Besides, the rate of overweight and obesity tended to increase, accounting for 9.3%. There was a statistically significant relationship between the child's malnutrition status and the education level, the knowledge of the caregivers in the prevention of malnutrition (p < 0.05). There was also a relationship between overweight and obesity of children and the knowledge, practice of caregivers in prevetion of overweight and obesity (p < 0.05).
