This study aims to describe some factors related to diabetes in the elderly in Thai Nguyen city. A cross-sectional study had been conducted on 520 elderly. There is an association between a family history of diabetes and diabetes, with p < 0.001. There has been an association between dietary intake in the last 3 days (the patient eats a lot of rice, eats a lot of sweet fruits, drinks a lot of soft drinks, and eats a lot of fatty meat) with diabetes, with p < 0.05. There is a relationship between high blood pressure, between overweight/obesity (BMI ≥ 23.0) and waist circumference with diabetes. There is a relationship between knowledge about risk factors for diabetes, between attitudes about reasonable eating behavior and diabetes, between physical activity and diabetes, with p < 0.05. It is necessary to strengthen the widespread propaganda for the elderly about the knowledge of diabetes in order to change the attitudes and behaviors of the elderly about diabetes prevention. It is necessary to strengthen the implementation of screening work, in order to detect diabetes early in the community, especially for those with risk factors such as people with a family history of diabetes, hypertension, overweight/obesity.
