Abstract

The cross-sectional study aimed at describing the nutritional status of 7 - 9 years old children in suburban schools of Hanoi. A total of 602 students aged 7 - 9 years old from Duyen Thai and Ninh So primary schools, Thuong Tin district, Hanoi participated in the study. The child’s nutritional status was classified using the WHO Reference 2007. The results showed that the double nutritional burden of children aged 7 - 9 years old among two primary schools had the tendency more towards overweight and obesity: the prevalence of underweight, wasting and stunting was 8.5%, 6.3% and 3.5%, respectively; the prevalence of overweight and obesity was 20.5%. It is recommended to have interventions on school nutrition and physical education to control the double burden of nutrition for 7 - 9 year old children in suburban areas.
