Abstract

A cross-sectional study was conducted in 63 provinces/cities in Vietnam from 2010 to 2019 to describe the current status of hepatitis B birth dose vaccination in Vietnam. The results showed that the coverage proportion of Hepatitis B vaccine birth dose (hepB-BD) in Vietnam during 2010 - 2019 was 70.5%, of which the proportion of hepB-BD within 24 hours and after 24 hours of births were 63.2% and 7.3%, respectively. There was a difference between socio-economic areas (p < 0.01). The highest and lowest proportions of hepB-BD were 78.0% in Mekong River Delta area and 55.5% in Northern midlands and mountain area. The coverage proportion of hepB-BD in Vietnam during 2010-2019 was low, varied unevenly between years and socio-economic areas in Vietnam. It is necessary to enhance the coverage of hepB-BD, especially hepB-BD vaccination within 24 hours of births.
