Treatment adherence and related factors among elderly patients with hypertension at Tra Vinh University Hospital in 2018 - 2019

The study aimed to describe the adherence to treatment therapy and related factors among elderly patients with hypertension. The cross - sectional study was conducted on 325 hypertensive outpatients by direct interviews at the Examination room of Tra Vinh University Hospital. The fndings showed 82.1% of subjects had followed check-ups and pharmacological therapy at the hospital very well, 84.9% and 94.4% of those had quit smoking and using alcohol/beer, respectively. Yet 33.5% of patients had not still performed physical activities and had been non – compliance with salt - restricted diet as recommendation. Knowledge, attitude of hypertension prevention and increased disease duration were associated with good treatment adherence. Lifestyle modifcation among patients is positively related to female, active occupation and good attitude to hypertension prevention. It is needed to improve patients’ compliance to lifestyle modifcation through ongoing health consulting and reminders.
