Situation and related factors to intestinal paracite infection among raw vegetables sellers at markets in Tra Vinh City in 2019

A cross - sectional descriptive study was conducted to describe situation and related factors to intestinal paracite infection among raw vegetables sellers at markets in Tra Vinh City in 2019. Identify parasites on 240 vegetable samples by Romanenko method. At the same time, we surveyed general information and knowledge about safe vegetables of greengrocers. The
results of this study show that the percentage of intestinal parasites infection on vegetables is 61.67%. In particular, the prevalence of each parasite is Ascaris lumbricoides 19.17%, hookworm (Ancylostoma duodenale or Necator americanus) 35.83%, Strongyloides stercoralis 25.83%, and the occurrence of Fasciola gigantica, Clonorchis sinensis, Opisthorchis viverrini and Fasciolopsis buski have not been found. The rate of parasitic infection on each vegetable is: 50% lettuce, 70.83% bitter vegetable, 83.33% chilli, 58.33% vegetables, 45.83% water spinach, 12.50% water spinach, sinus lettuce 79.17%, vegetables 62.50%, fsh lettuce 62.50%, basil 91.67%. It is related to keeping intestinal parasite infection with ethnicity, education level and
washing vegetables before selling. The results of this study show that consumption of parasitic contaminated vegetables in Tra Vinh city is a risk to transmit intestinal parasites, especially hookworms. Therefore, health authorities need to educate citizens about using safe vegetables.
