The efciency of using micronutrients fortifed pure natural milk for nutritional status among preschool children in Yen Bai province, 2017

Improving the nutritional status of children through the use of micronutrient fortifed food is an important solution. This
study aims to evaluate the efciency of using micronutrients fortifed pure natural milk for nutritional status among preschool children in Yen Bai province2017. A randomized controlled intervention study was conducted to using micronutrients fortifed pure natural milk with 19 micronutrients and minerals (2 boxes/180ml/day) for towards nutritional status, Reseach conducted on 717 children aged 36 – 70 months (351 children in control group and 366 children in intervention group) at preschool. After 3-6 months intervention were improved signifcantly anthropometric indicators: the difference of weight and height (p<0.001); WAZ-score and WHZ score (p <0.01); the difference in WAZ-score HAZscore, and WHZ-score between the intervention and control groups (p <0.01); prevalence of underweight was decreased in the intervention group compared to the control group (p<0.05). After six months of intervention, weight and height in the intervention group increased 1.41kg and 3.64 cm compared to 1.07 kg and 3.36 cm in the control group. Therefore, the use of micronutrient fortifed pure natural milk should be implemented as a food among for preschool children, especially in areas of high risk of malnutrition to improve nutritional status among children in the upcoming period.
