Abstract

Occupational stress on nurses is increasing and can cause health consequences of the nurse as well as the quality of patient care. This cross-sectional descriptive study on 338 full-time clinical nurses at E Hospital from December 2022 to May 2023, aimed to describe the current situation of occupational stress of clinical nurses at E Hospital. Using the JCQ questionnaire and Karasek model to assess the prevalence of occupational stress through physical stress, decision power and social support. Our findings showed that the rate of occupational stress accounted for 7.1%, according to the Karasek model, the percentage of nurses with active work was 79.0%. The prevalence of occupational stress in married nurses was lower than in nurses who are single or with other married status (p = 0.04). The rate of occupational stress was higher in nurses who did not yet have children than in the other groups (p = 0.044). Nurses with work-to-family conflict have a higher rate of occupational stress than those without conflict and those at risk of conflict (p = 0.004). There is a statistically significant association between occupational stress in clinical nurses with marital status, child-rearing status and workfamily harmony. There needs a prevention of occupational stress to ensure the quality of patient care and improve the quality of life for the nurses.
