Dietary intake of type 2 diabetes patients undergoing inpatient treatment at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital in 2022 – 2023

Abstract

A cross - sectional study was conducted on 100 type 2 diabetes patients treated as inpatients at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital. The study period from December 2022 to May 2023 aims to describe the prevalence of dietary intake among patients. Data were collected through direct interviews and a 24- hour dietary recall. The research findings indicate that the average dietary energy intake of the patients was 1443.1 ± 396.4kcal/day. The protein, lipid, and carbohydrate content in the diet were 77.3 ± 33.6g/day, 51.1 ± 23.9g/ day, and 168.7 ± 39.1g/day, respectively. The percentage of energy-generating substances and the Ca/P ratio are unbalanced compared to recommended needs. The ratios of animal protein to total protein and vegetable lipids to total lipids are balanced. The content of vitamins B1, B2, and PP per 1000 kcal was balanced compared to recommended needs. When developing a diet for patients, healthcare professionals need to pay attention to creating a balanced diet that includes the appropriate proportions of nutrients. They should advise patients to adhere to their prescribed diet both during their hospital stay and at home.
