Abstract

The reasonable and safe use of antibiotics is currently a top concern in the health sector. According to the "Guideline for the Management of antibiotic use in Hospitals", monitoring the usage of antibiotics should be implemented regularly. The study was conducted through retrospective data to describe the trend of antibiotic use at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the period 01/2017 - 12/2021. The average antibiotic consumption is 36.75 DDD/100 bed days and tends to increase rapidly over the years. Penicillin + beta - lactamase inhibitor and cephalosporin group had the highest consumption. Penicillin + beta - lactamase inhibitor consumption tends to increase, while cephalosporin tends to decrease. Cefuroxime is consumed most (7.78 DDD/100 bed days) and shows a sharp decrease, followed by amoxicillin + clavulanic acid and ampicillin + sulbactam (7.70 and 7.34 DDD/100 bed days respectively) and tend to increase rapidly.
Conclusion: antibiotic consumption tends to increase rapidly over the years. Hospital should take measures to strengthen antibiotic use management and implement routine antibiotic consumption analysis based on the guidance of Decision 5631/QD-BYT.
