The situation and related factors of learning motivations among students of Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2020

A cross-sectional study was conducted on 660 students at Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy, aimed to describe the status and some related factors of learning motivations. The intrinsic motivations, extrinsic motivations and 12 related factors were evaluated using Likert’s scale (5 point). The main types of learning motivation of objects have been found including: learning to gain practical skills; to enhance cognition and knowledge; to earn money; to be a useful people in society, to improve personality. The results of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) showed that learning motivations were classifed into three sub-scales and related factors were reduced to 8 factors (measured by 27 variables). The signifcant factors of intrinsic motivation were gradually declining, namely: family and friends, life‘s opinion and ideals, training program, occupational awareness and learning conditions. In term of social motivations, the associated factors were mentioned descendingly including: self-belief, occupational awareness, learning conditions, classroom environment, family and friends, life‘s opinion and ideals. Benefcial motives were influenced by the following factors: family and friends, self-confdence,
classroom environment, occupational awareness, respectively.
