Participation of village health workers in HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities and some related factors in Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province in 2023

Given the fact that financial resources for HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities are gradually being reduced, promoting the role of village health workers is extremely necessary. A cross-sectional study of 203 village health workers in Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province explores the participation of village health workers in HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities and some related factors. The study interviewed 203 village health workers in Trung Khanh district through a set of quantitative questionnaires, conducted 8 in-depth interviews with health workers at the provincial and district levels, 06 village health workers and 01 village health worker. group discussion with 6 staff at 6 commune health stations. The results show that most of the village health workers have performed more than 50% of the tasks on HIV/AIDS prevention and control in the past 12 months. There are 11.8% of research subjects complete 7 tasks. Most of the village health workers have performed site management, target management, and communication on HIV/ AIDS prevention and control, reporting rates over 80%. The proportion of study subjects who performed counseling on accessing services, harm reduction interventions and supporting infected people was lower. Limited knowledge and attitudes related to HIV/AIDS, inadequate training, and lack of communication materials are factors affecting the performance of duties of village health workers.
