Abstract

A controlled intervention study was conducted for 12 months from August 2018 to September 2019 to evaluate the effectiveness of communication, surveillance and detection of people infected with malaria parasites in Bu Gia Map district, Binh Phuoc province. Measures to implement the intervention include testing for the detection of malaria parasites through surveillance systems at the health station (passive), investigating active detection of malaria parasites in at-risk subjects
and direct communication at households to raise people’s awareness of malaria prevention. The results showed that: the rate of malaria parasites are detected through the surveillance system (passive) in the intervention group and the control group difference was statistically signifcant with p < 0.05. Knowledge, attitudes and practices of malaria prevention of people in
the community have been markedly improved, in which the effectiveness of intervention (IE) is good knowledge respectively (IE = 75.89%, p < 0.05), good attitude (IE = 38.63%, p < 0.05) and correct practice (IE = 18.17%, p < 0.05). The rate of malaria parasites detected after the intervention decreased signifcantly, in which the efciency index (EI) Giemsa intervention
group (EI = 100.0%, p < 0.05), Real-Time PCR (EI = 90.31%, p < 0.05).
