Health care demands and service availablity for the elderly in Cao Bang province in 2021 - 2022

Abstract

A cross - sectional study aims to describe health care needs and service delivery for the elderly in Cao Bang province in 2021. The results showed that the average age of subjects was 70 years old. 59% have at least 1 chronic disease, the periodic monitoring of chronic diseases is mainly at commune health center (CHCs), accounting for 56.9%. In terms of health care needs, the elderly mainly needs health management at CHCs, information and health care in the community. The elderly group with chronic diseases has a higher need for health care than the group without the disease. The demand for health care in Ha Quang district is highest, then in Hoa An district and the lowest is in Trung Khanh district. The availability of acute medical care services for the elderly is highest in Ha Quang district and lowest in Trung Khanh district. In which, respiratory and musculoskeletal diseases are the two groups with the highest prevalence. Chronic medical services, hypertensive diseases and COPD are the two groups with the highest service availability. The health care needs of the elderly in Cao Bang are large and CHS has services available, including management of hypertension and COPD.
