Situation health careactivities for fshermen working on fshing vessels at Gulf of Tonkin, Central Coast, Gulf of Thailand, 2015-2017

Abstract

A descriptive cross-sectional analysis study was conducted by observing 426 fshing vessels and direct interviews with 426 vesselowners/ captains to assess status of health care for fshermen on boardat Gulf of Tonkin, Central Coast, Gulf of Thailand2015 - 2017. The study results show that the proportion of fshing boats equipped with emergency medical chest / medical bags is 48.59%, mostly bought by fshermen (91.30%). The rate of vessels having frst aid and emergency equipment is 38.73%. First aid and emergency aid equipment is inadequate and of insufcient quality based on the standards set by the Health Ministry’s regulations. Medical assistanceavailable on board when someone has health problems include: self-care (48.59%), docking the vessel (56.81), taking the ship to the nearest island for treatment (26.76%), helped by other ships (18.08%), and the help of military health (15.96%). The proportion of ships with instructions on how to handle injuries, poisoning and accidents at sea is 19.25%.
