Abstract

A cross - sectional study was conducted on 1020 pupils at Le Ich Moc Secondary School, Thuy Son Commune, Thuy Nguyen
district, Hai Phong city, from October 2019 to March 2020. It was to describe knowledge and attitudes of injury prevention and control among this population in this area. Results: the percentage of pupils who had sufcient knowledge about injury prevention and control was 52.6%, 62.25% had been provided information on injury prevention and control, and the main source of information were family (20.6%), television (16.9%) and social networks (16.4%). The proportion of average/ maximum of knowledge score for all types of injuries ranged from 50% to 65%. There were 58.8% of pupils having attitude inapropiate in preventing injuries. The percentage of inapropiate knowledge was higher for boys (54.1% vs 40% for girls), grade 6 pupils (53.5% vs 44.9% in grades 7, 8, and 9) and lower attitude (55.3% vs 35.7%). It is necessary to strengthen communication education to raise awareness and attitudes for pupils, and should be focused over the boys and lower grades.
