The current situation of expertise knowledge of heath staffs about handling specific medical problems in the island area

Abstract

A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed through direct interviews with 91 medical staff in 6 island districts to assess their expertise status in dealing with specific medical problems in the island area. The study results showed that: 90.1% of medical staff have knowledge about 5 types of marine animals that are toxic to humans; 30.7% of medical staff know initial knowledge when meeting patients with seafood poisoning; 9.9% have good knowledge about common symptoms of the diving accident; 1.1% of medical staffs have correct knowledge of first aid when having a patient with weakness or partial paralysis due to a diving accident; The percentage of medical staffs working on the island who are updated on marine medicine is 9.9%.  It is necessary to strengthen the implementation of training activities, update training for medical staff in sea and island areas on marine medical knowledge.
