Abstract

A cross-sectional study was conducted on 450 people aged 40 and older at Minh Duc commune, Tu Ky district, Hai Duong province, from October 2020 to August 2021, aimed to describe the people’s prevalence of hypertension. Information was collected by blood pressure measurement and face-to-face interviews at people's homes. Research results showed that the prevalence of hypertension was 38.7%; the prevalence of hypertension in men and women were 46.1% and 34.4%, respectively; the rate of hypertension was highest in the 70 – 79  years old group (66.0%), the lowest in the 40 - 49 - year - old group (18.2%). The prevalence of pre-detected hypertension was 51.1%, the majority of people detected hypertension during periodic health examination (61.8%). The rate of hypertension being managed and treated was 36.8%; 63.2% of people with the disease have not been treated. The rate of level I hypertension was 67.6%, level II hypertension was 29.4% and level III hypertension was 3.0%. It is necessary to organize screening for high-risk subjects to early detect those infected and put them into management and treatment.
