The situation and some factors related to the sex ratio imbalance at birth in Hoa Dong commune, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong City in 2019

Abstract

A cross-sectional descriptive study of 144
mothers had children who was born in 2019 todescribe the situation and some factors relatedto the sex ratio imbalance at birth in Hoa Dongcommune, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phongcity. The result showed that the sex ratio atbirth in 2019 in Hoa Dong commune was 125boys/100 girls. The Sex Ratio at Birth wasincreased with number of births, and was thehighest among mothers having the third and
higher order birth (414.3/100). Mothers withlower secondary education had the highest SexRatio at Birth (153.3/100). The study foundsome factors related to the imbalance of sex ratio at birth mother’s demographic factor (age group), customary factors (the desire to have a son for prevention) and related factors
from scientifc engineering, technology (using ultrasound to diagnose sex, applying ultrasound method of ovulation).
