Knowledge, attitude, practice on communication with patients and some factors of nursing students at Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2019

Abstract

Communication skill is very important when nursing students practice in the hospital. The research was to describe knowledge, attitudes and practice of communication with patients and some factors of nursing students in the hospital and some influencing factors. The cross-sectional descriptive study was on 101 nursing students in the 3rd and 4th year of Hai
Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2018 – 2019. The research results show that students have the correct knowledge of the concept of communication skills is 78.2%; in terms of communication types is 99%. When practice in the hospital, 18.8% of students achieved when arranging for the patient to lie down and introducing the patient to everyone around. There are 76.2% of students pass when telling the patient what necessary things after the procedure is done and 97% of the students pass when they inform and explain to the patient before conducting care activities. According to the students, the uncooperative patient is the main reason affecting the practice of communication skills with the patient (81.2%).
