Knowledge and practice about sharp injuries prevention of nursing student and some related factors in Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy, 2020

Abstract

The study aimed to describe the knowledge and skills about sharpening injury prevention and some related factors of nursing students of Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy. A cross-sectional descriptive study was designed
on 118 full-time nursing students in the third year and the fourth year who are practicing at the clinical departments of Viet Tiep Hospital. The results showed that 85.3% of students had average score of 15.7 ± 1.97 in knowledge of sharp injuries prevention; 78.8% of students had average score of 12.3 ± 1.47 in practice of sharp injuries prevention. There were relationship between the school year with risk of injury: OR= 2,1; p < 0,05, knowledge with risk of injury: OR = 4.1; p < 0.05. There were relationship between practice with risk of injury: OR = 4.7; p < 0.05. Therefore, it is necessary to propose some solutions to prevent sharp injuries for nursing students.
