Current situation of scoliosis in high school students in Viet Nam in 2019

A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted to assess the status of scoliosis high school students in four provinces/cities in the North - Middle - South and in the northern midland, including Hanoi, Yen Bai, Ha Tinh and Can Tho. The schools and grades chosen were representatives for urban and rural areas. Research results showed that the scoliosis rate in students is 7.4%, in which the lowest was in primary school age (4.4%), and increases in lower secondary school (8.3%) and high school (9.4%). Scoliosis rate female students was higher than that in male students (respectively 12.1 and 2.6%; p <0.001). The proportion of students with scoliosis in rural areas was higher than that in urban areas (8.0 and 6.9%, respectively, p <0.001).
