Prevalence of falls in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus undergoing outpatient treatment at the National Endocrinology Hospital in 2023 and associated factors

Fall injuries in the elderly with diabetes are an important issue, as they can lead to reduced ability to perform activities of daily living and increased risk of disability, reduced sensory perception and balance due to peripheral neuropathy leading to increased risk of falls in this group. Conducted at the Central Endocrinology Hospital in 2023, to describe the current situation of falls and identify related factors in the elderly with type 2 diabetes. A cross-sectional study of 360 patients aged 60 years and older showed that the rate of falls in the past 12 months was 29.2%, with 94.3% falling once and 5.7% falling multiple times. The study recommends that older adults should be proactive in their awareness of fall risks and prevention measures, that families should renovate their homes to make them safer, and that governments should promote fall prevention. safer home environments, and authorities should promote fall prevention awareness.
