The study aimed to determine the need to use Traditional Medicine (TM) for the treatment of common cold (CMC) and find out some related factors. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 642 students of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy from September 2022 to April 2023. The results showed students with CMC ≥ 3 times per year accounted for 45.5% and the disease duration < 5 days was 50.3%. Nasal congestion was the symptom with the highest score (1.9 ± 0.7). There were 379 students who have the need to use TM for the treatment of CMC, of which herbal steam accounted for 68.1%. Related factors of the need to treatment of CMC by TM were gender, major, and number of CMC episodes per year (p < 0.05). Therefore, measures should be taken to improve students’ awareness and approach to TM methods for the treatment of CMC.
