Description of some epidemiological and clinical characteristics of deaths due to hand, foot and mouth disease in An Giang province in 2023

Hand-food-mouth disease is mainly caused by Coxsackievirus, manifesting symptoms such as fever, rash and mouth ulcers. The disease mainly affects young children and spreads rapidly in the community. The study aims to analyse the epidemiological situation of hand-food-mouth disease, describe clinical symptoms and deaths in An Giang. The study describes the total number of cases and deaths due to hand, foot and mouth disease. The study results showed that the peak period in 2023 was from August 2023 to November 2023, the number of deaths was similar to the peak period; the incidence rate was 433/100,000 people; the case/death rate was 0.084%; 5/7 deaths were positive for EV71; children died at about 31 months of age; 74.1% of children died due to late detection and decision to bring them to medical facilities. To protect public health, it is necessary to closely monitor symptoms of the disease. When suspicious signs are detected, take the child to a medical facility for timely advice and treatment.
