Current situation of depression, anxiety and some related factors among pupils of a high school in Nghe An province in 2019-2020

A cross-sectional study was conducted on 497 pupils of Ha Huy Tap high school in Nghe An province to describe the situation of pupils depression and anxiety in 2019-2020 and some related factors. The information was collected through a set of questionnaires using the DASS-21 toolkit. The results showed that: 38.2% of pupils had signs of depression and 39.2% experienced anxiety. Many factors are signifcantly associated to depression and anxiety among pupils such as grade, studying pressure and being bullied by classmates. Some signifcant factors that are associated to depression among pupils are worry about the COVID-19 pandemic and feeling left out and depressed because of staying at home for too long. Meanwhile, other factors such as difculty in studying online and family’s fnancial situation affected by the COVID-19 pandemic are signifcantly associated to the anxiety among pupils. Anxiety is related to depression among pupils in this study.
