Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine for the prevalence of hearing loss in children under 1 year old receiving inpatient treatment and describe some related factors at Gia Lai Provincial Children’s Hospital to facilitate early intervention in the treatment of hearing loss. The study employed a cross-sectional descriptive method, involving surveys, investigation, and data analysis,. Our current study results involve 1000 children under 1 year old, of which there are up to 5 cases with “Refer” results after 3 OAE measurements, accounting for 0.5% (5/1000 cases), The results also show that the prevalence of hearing loss in male infants is higher than in female infants. The prevalence of hearing loss in the 31 - 36 and 37 - 38 week gestational age groups is higher than in other gestational ages. The prevalence of hearing loss in ethnic minorities such as Jrai, Bahnar, Ede is higher than in the Kinh ethnic group. The prevalence of hearing loss in rural areas, villages, hamlets; communes is higher than in cities. The prevalence of hearing loss in infants with other conditions such as jaundice after birth, oxygen therapy after birth, treatment of neonatal infections, pneumonia;... is higher than in normal birth infants. Therefore, a screening program for all newborns is optimal for detecting hearing-impaired children early. If detected early and treated promptly, the chances of recovery are higher. Hearingimpaired children need specialized intervention that can start from the age of 1 year for the best results for the child.
