Effectiveness of intervention on knowledge about management of hypertension and diabetes treatment by commune and village health workers in Thach That district, Hanoi

Controlled community intervention study on all commune and village health ofcers of Thach That district (intervention group) and Quoc Oai (control group) was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of staff training in detecting and managing hypertension and diabetes treatment has been implemented from October 2017 to the end of October 2018. The results showed that: The percentage of health workers with correct knowledge of the management and treatment of hypertension and diabetes in the intervention group at the time after the intervention was mostly higher (p < 0.05) than before the intervention. Similarly, the capacity of village health workers to detect hypertension management in the intervention group has been improved: the proportion of people with correct knowledge of hypertension and measures to prevent complications diabetes at the postintervention time was signifcantly higher than pre - intervention (p < 0.05). The difference was statistically signifcant (p < 0.05). The difference in difference analysis also showed that the improvement in knowledge of health workers and village health workers on managing hypertension and diabetes treatment is mostly related to intervention time and condition (p < 0.05). The study has shown that certain capacity building interventions can be considered for practical application.
