Abstract

School - based education on rabies prevention and control contributes to reduce risk of rabies deaths in children, and the
role of school teachers is the key factor. The cross-sectional study was conduct among 950 school teachers of all schools in Son La, 2019 to describe knowledge and practice for rabies prevention and control. Results showed that 96% teachers heard about rabies, on mass media generally. Almost teachers had sufcent knowledge of rabies, but there was a low rate of them had sufcient knowledge of reaction and treatment when and post exposure. About 85.5% teachers knew rabies vaccinating for animals. Around 60% knew and did vaccination after being bitten by dogs, cats. Nearly 3% teachers appied traditional medicine for rabies treatment. Around 60% of them understand their roles of educating school children, and communicating people in rabies control and prevention. Therefore, improving knowledge for school teachers to getting effective rabies school-based communication is highly recommend.
