Abstract

A cross – sectional study was conducted in 232 preterm infants less than 32 weeks gestation to determine the prevalence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and describe some related factors associated with BPD in National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology from Sep. 2022 to May 2023. The patients were followed up to 36 weeks corrected age for diagnosing BPD. The incidence of BPD in preterm infants under 32 weeks gestation was 33.6%. The incidence were 100% and 12.2% in 25 weekers and 31 weekers, respectively. Extremely preterm infants, extremely low birth weight infants, infants who had late – onset infections, infants who had patent ductous arteriosus (PDA) needing treated and who needed blood transfusion increased the risk for BPD 4.08; 7.36; 6.78; 7.27 and 10.24 times, respectively. The incidence of BPD in infants less than 32 weeks gestation was high. Extrermely preterm, extremely low birth weight, late – onset infections, PDA and blood transfusion increased the risk for BPD. Therefore, in order to reduce the incidence of BPD, controlling infections, treating PDA and considering blood transfusion is needed.
