Abstract

After gastric bypass surgery, patients often experience nutritional disorders due to the functional, physiological changes of the digestive system, change eating habits that is one of the causes of malnutrition as well as anaemia; this is an obstacle affecting the recovery process of the disease. This study aims to describe the diet practice of the patients who have discharged from the gastrectomy at the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital in 2018. Using a crosssectional descriptive study on 96 patients with gastric bypass surgery at 3 departments of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Urgent Abdominal Surgery, Department of Oncology, VietnamGermany Friendship Hospital from November 2017 to July 2018. The results: Practicing
nutritional principles was 78.1%, practised on food choices achieved not high 40.6% and the practice of correcting post-eating problems was low at only 26.8%. It is necessary to educate and give nutritional advice before, during and after surgery for patients, especially on how to choose the right foods as well as promptly and adequately handling problems that may occur
after eating to improve results of treatment and quality of life for patients.
