To supplement information about the treatment of acute diarrhea in children under five years old at a provincial hospital, we conducted a study to evaluate the treatment results of acute diarrhea in children under five years old at the Pediatric Department, Tien Giang Central General Hospital in 2021. A descriptive crosssectional study was conducted on 342 cases of
children under five years old from January 1, 2021, to September 30, 2021. The study results showed that the average duration of treatment was 4.9 ± 3.0 days, of which the hospital stay ≤ 7 days accounted for 82.7%. 100% of children were given ORS solution, zinc, and probiotics, 80.1% were given anti-intestinal drugs hidrasec, 64.3% were given antibiotics, and 74.9% were treated with fluids. After 24 hours and 48 hours of treatment, the number of children with acute diarrhea with dehydration decreased from 7.9% to 0.6%. On the third day of treatment, 100% of the remaining children were no longer dehydrated. 98.5 pediatric patients were discharged. Special attention
should be paid to the care and monitoring of infants and groups with underlying diseases when hospitalized for acute diarrhea.
